The “Heart and Soul of the Delta”. Ken found the use of the term “Mississippi Delta” quite perplexing since he’d always considered any river’s delta to be where it flowed into some other body of water. But apparently in this case there is a difference between the Mississippi River Delta and the Mississippi Delta - also sometimes referred to as the Yazoo–Mississippi Delta, or simply the Delta. The Delta is the distinctive northwest section of Mississippi (and portions of Arkansas and Louisiana) that lies between the Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers. It was created by regular flooding of the Mississippi and Yazoo rivers over thousands of years, most recently in 1927 and 2011.
