MRC54 The Industrial Southern River

One thing that was kind of disappointing to Ken was that most of the actual river cruising was done at night.  This limited somewhat his ability to view the activities on the river.  But it’s not like there are many scenic views anyway.  South of the Horace Wilkinson / I-10 bridge in Baton Rouge the river is kept to a depth of 45 feet.  That is deep enough that large ocean-going vessels can navigate the river.  North of that the river depth is only 9 feet.  The combination of the river depth and the height of the bridge itself, prevents bigger vessels from navigating the river north of Baton Rouge – and improves the scenery too.
